Sri Chithira Thirunal award – 2009 has been declared

Superstar Mohanlal has been selected for the Sri Chithira Thirunal award for 2009, instituted by Sri Chithira Thirunal Trust, formed in memory of the former Maharaja of the erstwhile Travancore Sri Chithira Tirunal. The award includes a cash prize of Rs. 10,00,000 and a plaque. The award, instituted in 2006, honours individuals who have made exceptional contributions in fields such as science, technology, literature, art, medicine, cinema and education. Mohanlal  was considered for the award for his contributions to Cinema and Theatre. The award was announced by the committee  Chairman T. Balakrishnan, principal secretary of Kerala State Industries Department and members N. Ayyappan (KSFDC MD),  Director Harikumar, Trust Chairman T. Raveendran Thampi and Managing Trustee T. Satheesh Kumar  in a press meet at Thiruvananthapuram on Friday. ISRO chairman G. Madhavan Nair, National Security Advisor M.K. Narayanan and Farm scientist M.S. Swaminathan were the winners of the award in 2006, 2007 and 2008, respectively.
